OUR MISSION:
Our mission at Curiosity Lab is to ignite in every child the curiosity to explore the world around and help them find their passion. We teach more than just science, engineering and mathematics. Our goal is to impart "Creative and Ethical Scientific Literacy" through a 4-step approach: (i) Use innovative story-telling, songs and visuals to engage (ii) Provide tools for hands-on learning and scientific literacy (iii) Help make curiosity and problem solving a habit of the mind. (iv) Create a culture of science as a tool for human inquiry and equip kids with ethics so they can responsibly engage in social scientific issues. |
HOW IT ALL STARTED:
There come moments in life when we get a calling to a purpose. My decision to start Curiosity Lab was one such defining moment. As far as I can remember I have always wanted to simply learn and grow! With a Masters of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering and a research background I have gone back and forth between industry and academia. Having children of my own changed that. I began to notice that the current social media generation is being robbed of the white space - moments that spark a desire to engage with the world. We as parents seem too occupied and questions are answered with "later". There is no time to build periscopes and sundials or grow vegetables. Fast forward through their lives; little wonder that surveys (Gallup) find less than 13% of the workforce globally is actively engaged at work. I often ask myself: "If we do not help children explore the world, how will they find their path?" Curiosity Lab - a STEAM based discovery laboratory for kids 3-15 years - was born. The lab is the culmination of my passion for science, love for teaching and a burning desire to cultivate the innate curiosity and creativity I see in every child. I find it unacceptable to let that fade away in spreadsheets and monotony of schoolwork. Curiosity Lab won the Wells Fargo Works Project Contest 2015 which gave us the motivation, guidance and support to reach a larger audience. We constantly receive amazing support from parents, children and educators which keeps us going!
